There is no denying that runDisney has become one of Disney's most popular events. These races almost always sell out, and people who don't even like running will sign up for a chance to experience this one-of-a-kind race through Disney.
So what makes these races so special? From rare character meets to Disney-themed medals, it's a chance for Disney fans to see the parks like they've never seen them before. Throughout your run, you'll hear Disney music and be greeted with fun stops along the way that include characters, choirs, and a marching band! Depending on what race you sign up for, you actually get to race THROUGH the parks. Disney also hosts a special after-hours event at the parks that's included in your run purchase.
5 Must-Have Items for Your Run
While we have not personally participated in a runDisney event, many of our friends have. We've been so lucky to be a part of their cheerleading team and watch as they accomplish big goals for their runs. So, we picked their brains about their favorite items for these special events so you can be prepared whether you’re a seasoned runner or a newbie!
Mylar Blanket
Even though Florida is known for the heat, runDisney events start VERY early in the morning. Buses typically start running at 2:30 and the last pickup is at 3:30…A.M. A large chunk of the events are during the winter, so it can be a bit chilly in the morning, sometimes as low as the 40’s. And depending on which corral you’re in, you could possibly be waiting up to two hours until you actually get to the starting line. These lightweight blankets can help keep you warm until you start your running journey. They are disposable, so you can ditch them in the nearest trash can when you start!
Anti-Chafe Balm
Even non-runners know that chafing can cause the most magical trip to become your worst nightmare. Make sure you have an anti-chafing stick handy to reapply while running. We love the Body Glide brand because they are tiny and can fit easily within your belt bag! We've also heard great things about the Megababe brand from our favorite vlogger, Molly from Mammoth Club, who spends A LOT of time at the parks in the heat!
While some runners prefer not to use a bag while running, our friend, Claire, loves the SPIbelt Bags. These bags are perfect for running because they are very small, but can fit your necessities like your phone, ID card, AirPods, and a portable charger. They are also made for runners, so they are comfortable for long distances!

Due to the early start of this race, it’s easy to forget about the Florida sun. But, when that sun starts to rise, it brings new meaning to the Batuu greeting of “Bright suns!” Our friends and veteran runners, Jenny & Laura, recommend the brands Air Fit and goodr. They have found that these brands do well while running, as they don’t seem to slip off of your face when you start to sweat!

Okay, so while these are not necessary, we believe that it helps add to the magic! Dressing to the runDisney theme or as your favorite character can help motivate you to keep going and also provide really fun photo moments with surprise characters along the path! Of course we have put together some looks for you over on our Template Shop. We styled these for the Princess Half Marathon in 2024, but they will work for any runDisney event! Claire shared with us that glitter tutus are not anyone’s friend while running, so we made sure the items we selected were cute AND functional for any run.
