What I Wore to Alaska on our Disney Cruise

Winter and fall are my favorite seasons, so I was very excited to outfit plan for our 7-Day Alaskan Cruise on the Disney Wonder. If you’ve been reading our blogs or watching us on YouTube for a while, you might have picked up that I am not a beach and heat kind of girl. Getting to wear layers, pants, and my all time favorite piece of clothing - crew neck sweatshirts, on a Disney vacation was really a dream come true.

Ashlie standing in front of the iconic red Disney Cruise Line funnel on embarkation day, wearing black polka dot pants, a red cruise graphic tee, a light Disney character shacket, and classic Mickey ears — perfect Disney Alaska Cruise outfit inspiration from Once Upon a Wardrobe.

However, packing for this trip was a bit of a challenge. We are a family of four, and I really had to be mindful of luggage and space on this trip. Layers are lovely, but trying to pack bulky items like shackets and coats was not something I had practiced for on our typical Disney vacations. I also wasn’t sure HOW many layers I was going to need, and the internet can be an overwhelming space.

So, I did the best I could with information I had gathered from past cruisers and friends, and I think it turned out well. Did I still overpack? Yes. But, old habits die hard. And considering this was my dream trip, I think I did pretty darn good about being mindful of what I was packing.

There are a few things you should know before we dig in. One, our cruise was the first week of June. Most days felt like a Midwest fall rather than winter. This could be different for your cruise, as weather can vary each year. Second, you need to just accept that you will be doing laundry on your cruise.

It’s a bummer, I know, but it will save you space and sanity in the long run. And last, if you are already overwhelmed and don’t want to deal with any of this, please know that we can help. Check out our outfit planning services to see how we can plan outfits for your Alaskan Cruise.

But now, let’s dig in.

Travel Day

We technically had two travel days, as we live in St. Louis, but this is what I wore in Vancouver. Our family explored the city at the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. I decided to share this outfit because I re-wore these pants on the cruise and wanted to show you how you can do the same! I also wanted to point out the shoes.

As previously mentioned in my post about things I DON’T regret buying for this trip, waterproof shoes of some sort are important no matter what time of year you are cruising to Alaska. I love these sneakers because they are perfect for travel days and all of your adventures.

Embarkation Day

This was one of the few warmer days. Canada was chilly in the evening, but warmer during the day. Even though I am a fan of cooler weather, I am still a bit of a wimp when it comes to the temperature. So, I still wore the fleece on the deck, but chances are you won’t need to when it comes to your trip. This is the day to wear a cute t-shirt and get those smokestack photos!

A lot of this is out of stock, as these are older items, but I have done my best to link some similar options. Again, you can simply just use this as inspiration and pull from your own closest!

Day at Sea

I typically love to theme it up each day of our adventures, but because we were going to spend so much time OFF of the ship, I chose just one day to showcase my style and personality. Days at sea are wonderful opportunities to get photos with characters or schedule speciality classes for a date night in.

Disney Day at Sea outfit styled with a blue "ahoy" embroidered sweatshirt, pleated black skirt, sheer polka dot tights, Minnie cruise ears, combat boots, a sparkly collar necklace, and nautical fanny pack — perfect for sailing in Disney style.

Even as an outfit planner for magical vacations, comfort is not lost on my outfits. To keep warm and cozy, I went with a crewneck, boots and tights. My typical “theme park uniform” involves some sort of skirt (mostly because I hate anything with a button), and this one is a favorite. It’s an oldie from Old Navy, but I have linked a similar option!

Glacier Day

This was one of my absolute favorite days on our cruise. You can check out or vlog if you want to see why!

But, I wanted to recreate Mickey’s special Alaska cruise outfit. I purchased this skirt years ago and only wore it once, so I was so happy that it worked perfectly for this day. My original plan was to just use this outfit for photos with the characters on the deck, then change for our Palo reservation.

However, things did not go as planned, and I ended up wearing this outfit to Palo, which worked out just fine! When we went up for the glacier viewing, I swapped the skirt for some leggings and the ears for a hat because the temperature dropped throughout the day.

Skagway, Alaska

The original plan for this outfit was for a dogsled excursion in the mountains. I was planning for layers and warmth, so I designed this sweatshirt to capture the feeling of the morning. Well, the weather had other plans in mind for us that day, and the excursion ended up getting cancelled.

Cute and functional Skagway excursion outfit for a Disney Alaska Cruise with a blue “golly what a day” sweatshirt, black leggings, tan hiking boots, cream beanie, Mickey backpack, and Donald & Daisy hair tie — ideal for layering in Alaska’s mountain town.

Turns out we didn’t need a helicopter ride to have an amazing day. We booked a last-minute excursion when we arrived in Skagway, and this outfit held its own through the Yukon Territory. Skagway is very windy, so I would highly recommend grabbing your hats for this town!

Juneau, Alaska

I may or may not have crammed too much into our day in Juneau, but it was well worth the cost of exhaustion. We had a musher’s camp and whale watching excursion all in one day. For these adventures, I wanted to make sure I had clothes and shoes that would do well in rainy, muddy conditions.

Outdoor-ready outfit for a Disney cruise port day in Juneau with a chambray shirt, olive thermal long sleeve top, black utility joggers, hiking boots, beanie, and Mickey Loungefly backpack — practical and stylish for exploring Alaska’s capital.

These were the pants I wore on our travel day, and they are a staple now in my everyday life. Lauren has actually been able to grab them for me in every color 😂. They are from Old Navy and work well in all weather. I did layer them with fleece leggings, but again, I am a wimp. It should also be known that this entire outfit was inspired by the one and only, Chessy, from The Parent Trap.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Oh, how I loved Ketchikan. If you are looking for a town straight out of a Hallmark movie, this will make your heart swoon. It’s so picturesque and full of history and art. My husband and I were able to sneak away on a lunch date to the New York Cafe. It was absolutely delicious.

We also had booked the lumberjack excursion for this day, so obviously I wanted to lean into a flannel theme. This one was from T.J. Maxx a few years ago, but I have linked a similar option. This town was also quite warm, and I didn’t really need my jacket most of the day.

Day at Sea

On our final day at sea, I went for full-on comfort. One of my favorite small shops is Polka Dot Pixie Shop, and this crewneck combines my love of Muppets and cruising. And yes, I really wore the ears from Amazon. They are actually my daughter’s, but I needed a way to keep my hair out of my face that day, and those just did the trick in the moment. I wouldn’t recommend them for adults for all day wear, as they can be flimsy and small, but they did the job in a pinch.

Comfy and magical Disney Day at Sea outfit with a light blue “Cast Your Cares Away” cruise sweatshirt, black leggings, Minnie Mouse ears, white sneakers, and a colorful character belt bag — great for relaxing on board or catching character meet-and-greets.

As far as bags go, I found that my fanny pack was perfect for Days at Sea, and a mini backpack was great for excursions. But, I am also a mom and tend to hold a lot of things when out and about. Just make sure your bag for the cruise can hold your passports and other important items for disembarkation!

Tiana’s Mardi Gras Celebration

For our seven night cruise there were plenty of opportunities to dress up and show off your glam. I had planned on packing an outfit for each themed night, which is: Formal Night, Freezing the Night Away, and Semi-Formal Night. I know, I know, this was very naive and ambitious, and I did learn the hard way that it wasn’t possible. It might be possible for you, but it wasn’t for our family.

Even with vacuum seal packing bags, I was already short on space. Sacrifices had to be made, and sadly themed nights were the first to go. But, I realized that I did have space for one event that I was particularly excited about, which was the Mardi Gras Celebration during our dining rotation. This outfit was easy to pack, and adding the flapper style headband helped bring it all together for the 1920’s theme.

The Ray shirt is no longer available, but I’ve linked an adorable similar option. And really, I could have made the skirt work for Semi-Formal night, but honestly with early dining, changing was more of a hassle than fun. If you have late dining, dressing up might be more of an option for you and your party!

Between our travel days and days on the ship, I rewore many of the same items throughout our vacation. Disney offers laundry service, as well as laundry rooms that you can pay for during your cruise. It’s really the easiest way to pack for this extended trip.

I hope you have found this helpful and it inspired you to start creating your own looks. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to drop them in the comments. Until then, remember, theme park (or cruise) fashion doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to make you smile!
