While the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is certainly our favorite part of Universal Studios, we understand that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. A lot of people relate Hogsmeade to Universal and might think that it’s a large part of the park, but it’s really not! It’s a highly immersive part of the theme park, and IF you are a fan, it’s not to be missed.
But, it’s located in a small corner and usually highly congested. So, if you’re visiting Universal this summer and want to still theme your outfits to this park, you have plenty of options! If you are looking for some Wizarding outfits, you can find those here.
If you are also headed to Islands of Adventure and need some outfit ideas for that theme park, you can check out our video below. We share lots of themes and outfit ideas over on our YouTube channel, so make sure to subscribe so you don't miss out!
However, this article's focus will be on Universal Studios! These looks were mainly planned around Universal Studios Orlando, but a few of these ideas can still work for Universal Studios Hollywood too! We’re going to give you 5 themes and outfit ideas for Universal Studios that don’t involve Harry Potter!
Minions
If you are a Despicable Me fan, Universal Studios has you covered. Minion Land has everything you need to feel like you’re a part of Gru’s crew. Complete with character meets, dance parties, rides, and themed food spots, there is plenty for you to explore through this part of the theme park.

This outfit idea is based around the Minions with those iconic blue and yellow colors. The two piece set is perfect for hot summer days in Orlando. We love it because you can wear this set again outside of the parks for weekend errands! All you have to do is add some banana accessories, and you are set to take some photos with Minions, Gru, Edith, Agnes, and Margo!

Men in Black
Don’t ask me why, but I LOVE the Men in Black franchise. I also have a very fond memory of riding this ride with Lauren for the first time. This outfit idea is a great way to stay on theme in a subtle way.
Men In Black doesn’t have a section of the park dedicated to it, but the ride, Alien Attack, is fun and very quirky. And sometimes, you can get a free behind-the-scenes tour and take photos in the Immigration Room! You can read more about this experience at Touring Plans.

This outfit was inspired by the MIB classic suits. We added some fun elements like the pug claw clip and Zap Ray Bag to help tie in the movie. This outfit is so easy and fun, and it can work anytime of the year. Just leave that button-down open or tie it around your waist on those toasty summer days in Orlando or L.A. And of course, don't "forget" your sunglasses. 😎
E.T.
To be honest, this outfit idea has a lot to do with nostalgia. Not only did I love this movie (even though the corn scene terrified me), but I remember riding this ride as a child and thinking that it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. The team member saw how excited I was to ride and let me sit in the front with E.T.’s basket! At the time, this ride was one of a kind, but I feel like its days might be numbered. So, if you love this adorable alien who stole all of our hearts, make sure you check out E.T. Adventure.

For this look we wanted something casual and comfortable. The shirt pairs really well with the yellow skort if you wanted to dress it up a bit, but classic jean shorts will always work too. We tried to find a backpack that resembled E.T.'s dress in the movie, as it's one of our favorite scenes! The Reese's hat was hard to find and is already sold out, so we linked some fun socks that would be perfect to wear with this look if you want to tie in E.T.'s favorite candy.

Transformers
This outfit idea was inspired by the ride Transformers: The Ride 3D. I chickened out on this ride due to motion sickness, but from what I have been told, fans of this franchise will enjoy it. However, you don’t have to get on this attraction to enjoy a meet and greet from your favorite Autobots and Decepticon!
Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and even Megatron can be found outside of this ride for photo opportunities. These characters are truly spectacular, and these meet and greets can be very entertaining to watch, as the Transformers often love poking fun at us humans.

Athletic dresses are our jam in the summer, and they work so well in the theme parks. They truly are the best way to keep cool, but also add a feminine touch to your look. Need another idea to rewear this look? The red, white, and blue colors will be perfect for those 4th of July cookouts and celebrations.
DreamWorks
Universal Studios opened a new section of the park this summer called DreamWorks Land. Here, you can find a Trolls themed roller coaster, hang out with Shrek in the swamp, and become a Kung Fu Warrior with lessons from Po! There are also some play areas and themed foods located in this spot. It’s a great place for the littles, which was much needed at Universal!
Trolls
This section of the park is adorably themed with bright colors and spots for your little ones to rest and also run around! Besides the Trolls coaster, there is Poppy's Playground. We've also seen Branch, Poppy, and Guy Diamond meeting guests in this area!

Speaking of Poppy, this outfit idea was inspired by the princess of positivity! Her colors are so fun, which makes for some great photo opportunities! We adore this heart purse, as Poppy is all about love, but if you're looking to add some Troll hair vibes to this look, we've linked another fun option!
Shrek
If visiting Shrek's swamp is on your bucket list, then you're in luck. You can visit with Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona right in front of Shrek's cottage! There is also an interactive play area for the little ogres in your life that includes some very fun sound effects.

Taking a much different direction from Poppy, we used lots of muted colors for this look to capture the colors of Shrek an the swamp. The braided velvet headband is an accessory that can easily be used in the fall and winter months for your everyday wardrobe. And the hair clips? Those gave us onion vibes. 😉

Green Plaid Skirt (similar option & plus-size friendly)
Kung Fu Panda
Rounding out DreamWorks Land is Kung Fu Panda. While you can't meet Po here, he does give some kung fu lessons at Po Live! This is an interactive screen show and a fun break for everyone.

We love the simplicity of this look and feel like it's something you can pull directly from your closet. A black t-shirt dress is extremely versatile and can be worn in or outside of the theme parks. A white classic button-down is also a wonderful layer to keep in your closet year-round. It can be worn over the dress or around your waist. The fedora shown is suede, which would be perfect during the winter months, but we linked an option below that will be a bit cooler and won't get ruined if it starts to rain!
Black T-Shirt Dress (goes up to 3X)
White Button-Down Top (plus-size friendly option)
Black & White Hoop Earrings (similar option)
Of course, there are even more fun ideas. The Simpsons would be a really great choice, and even a NYC tourist outfit would be fun for Jimmy Fallon’s Race Through New York! But, the ultimate challenge might be Fast & Furious. That attraction is WILD and definitely worthy of a ride at least once, but an outfit might be a different story. 😆
We hope you are able to find plenty of outfit inspiration for your next trip! And if you need further help with your outfit planning, book a session with us here! We’d love to create the perfect outfit for you or your family.
And remember, theme park fashion doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to make you smile!
