Outfits for Universal Orlando Epic Universe

Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe officially has an opening date. On May 22, 2024 guests will be able to experience this incredibly immersive theme park. Epic Universe will be divided into 5 areas: Celestial Park, How to Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic, Dark Universe, and perhaps the one I am most excited about, Super Nintendo World.

As someone who was born in the 80’s and raised in the 90’s, Nintendo and Mario were a big part of my childhood. I loved escaping to the Mushroom Kingdom and defeating bosses and Bowser. And as an adult, it’s still a way for me to de-stress, as I love being able to kick my husband’s butt in Mario Kart.

While Super Mario World exists over at Universal Studios Hollywood, it’s very small compared to what will be offered at Epic Universe. In fact, it will have even more attractions than the original Super Nintendo World in Japan.

So as Epic Universe prepares to open, I thought it would be fun to create outfits for Super Nintendo World based on some female characters. If you’re looking for something a little more tailored to your style preference and sizing, you can check out our custom services where we can plan something special for you and your entire family.

Outfits for The Women of Super Nintendo World

It wasn’t until Mario Kart where I feel like the female characters started to get their own personalities and felt like they were more than just a girl needing to be rescued. Now, I love that my daughter gets to enjoy playing these games and seeing them in movies as strong, capable women who can hold their own!

Princess Peach Outfits

Starting with the most famous female character, the ruler of Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach. As a young girl, I didn’t always love that the women characters within this franchise always needed rescuing. While I loved being able to explore new worlds and storylines, rescuing the same character was a bit….annoying. However, I LOVED the way she was represented in the latest Super Mario Bros. Movie! We no longer have to view her as weak, we can see her as someone who has a plan and wants to protect the people of her kingdom.

When Mario Kart was released, I was so excited to be able to choose a girl character! Even thought she wasn’t my favorite at the time 😆, I was happy to start writing a different story of Princess Peach as the girl who could beat the boys in the franchise. So, I wanted to create a Mario Kart-inspired outfit for the Princess.

We actually planned a similar outfit for a client heading to Japan, so we updated it a bit and added some new items. It’s no secret that Japan has superior merchandise compared to the states, but we hope they bring items like this headband to Universal Orlando. If you can’t get your hand on the headband, we styled this clip that reminded us of our favorite track, Rainbow Road. The star backpack is simply adorable, and it’s roomy! You’ll be able to fit all of your park day essentials inside, plus your souvenirs!

We also couldn’t resist planning an outfit around these shortalls. I really love overalls, and these checkered ones make it an adorable “finishing” touch. (Sorry, I will never apologize for dad jokes😅) I actually own the Mario Kart wheel crossbody! I snagged it when it was on sale at Target a few years ago. And if I am lucky enough to head to Epic Universe this summer, I will be adding it to my outfit!

Princess Daisy Outfits

As someone who doesn’t love the color pink (gasp!), I was excited to discover while playing Mario Party, that there was another Princess within the Mario realm that didn’t wear pastels. Princess Daisy arrived in the Mario series in 1989 with Super Mario Land on the Gameboy.

She is the ruler of Sarasaland, and her kingdom gets attacked by Tatanga, an evil spaceman. Princess Daisy later makes playable appearances in Mario Tennis and of course, Mario Kart. One of my favorite parts about Daisy is that she runs her own cruise line…yes, you read that correctly. She is a boss babe.

When Daisy appeared in Mario Party 3, she received an updated look with her now iconic dress and colors. And while she is my favorite Mario Princess, finding unique Princess Daisy items isn’t easy. So, we tried to create a fun and feminine look that tied her colors together. We are hoping that as we get closer to the opening of Epic Universe, more brands will start creating fun items like purses and jewelry. Until then, you just have to get creative!

While Daisy’s colors are traditionally yellow, orange, white, and emerald green, there are plenty of illustrations and iterations where that green has some blue to it. So, we also added some accessories that tied in that color. It worked out well, as we came across this crossbody that has some striking similarities to the Gameboy, which was where we first saw our girl! And why the cloud bracelet? Biokinton is a villain in Super Mario Land and is the ruler of Chai Kingdom, a land within Sarasaland. We thought it would be a cute moment for Daisy to wear the cloud as a symbol of overcoming difficult times, much like when Taylor Swift wears snakes. 🧡

Princess Rosalina Outfits

In Super Mario Galaxy, we finally get a female character who doesn’t need rescuing from being kidnapped by Bowser or a space alien. She is more of a help to Mario & Luigi to help rescue Peach…again…from Bowser. Rosalina aids the Mario Bros. with Luma.

If you thought finding items for Princess Daisy was difficult, Rosalina definitely takes the cake on this one. Luckily, Rosalina is an intergalactic princess, so we were able to incorporate some space themed items to this look and found some pretty adorable Luma earrings from Snazzy Pop Designs.

The first look is casual and will keep you cool during those opening months of Epic Universe. We loved adding in sparkles and iridescent items that represent stars and space.

We also stumbled upon this dress which we loved, as the sleeves reminded us of Rosalina’s dress. This option is great if you’re wanting a more elevated look. Shoutout to Applemint House for this crown headband. It’s one of the few Rosalina-specific items we could track down. The halo crown is also a unique way to tie in the galaxy theme!

Toadette Outfit

In 2003, Toadette made her debut in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! as Toad’s counterpart. Since then, she’s made several other appearances in Mario Bros. games and has been a welcome addition to the Mario family.

Even though Toadette is small, we wanted to make sure her outfit spoke volumes. We created a dress option to give her a fancier feel as opposed to her normal casual look with a vest. If you are attending Epic Universe in the summer, we would not recommend the beret. However, if you are headed there during the fall or winter, it would be an adorable addition to the look. And if you aren’t into doing a mushroom purse, you can find a mushroom beret that would be just as cute! The halo crown is from AnzanasTreasures. Either way, we love this sweet look, even if it is another pink choice. 😆

Pauline Outfit

One of the most exciting parts about Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe is the addition of Donkey Kong Country. Only in Orlando can you experience the home of Donkey Kong and ride Mine - Kart Madness. (Also, what an appropriate name since I hated this part of the game 😆)

So, I thought this would be the perfect place to give homage to the FIRST female talking video game character, Pauline. Pauline made her debut as the woman needing reduced in the original 1981 arcade version of Donkey Kong. Even though Pauline is portrayed as the first damsel of distress within the Mario game franchise, she walked so Rosalina could run.

She was first known as “Lady” in the OG game and was given many different colors of dresses, including pink of course where she resembles what Peach eventually becomes. But, she was finally given her own look and style when Donkey Kong was released for the Game Boy. Thankfully, they swapped the pink for a red form fitting dress, gold bangles, and black stiletto shoes. Later on within the franchise, she becomes a mayor and is shown in a red pantsuit with a red wide brimmed hat.

We wanted to break up the reds on the hat with a red accent, as opposed to all-over color. For the accessories, we wanted to bring the infamous barrels and ladders that are in the arcade game. The purses are cylinder shaped to create that barrel look, and we also added some microphone earrings, as she’s known to sing. She’s a woman of many talents and much more than “Mario’s first girlfriend”.

We hope you find these outfits helpful and inspiring! If you happen to grab any of these looks, be sure to tag us on social media! You can find us over on Instagram at ouawardrobe.

We are beyond excited for Epic Universe and can’t wait to explore all it has to offer while getting to wear some of our favorite characters.

And remember, theme park fashion doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to make you smile!
