One of Walt Disney World’s most unique resorts is Animal Kingdom Lodge. Inspired by the countries and cultures of southern Africa, it was designed to make you feel like you were on a safari. Not only are the interior buildings filled with stunning details and cast members who can educate you on African games, food, and history, but where else in America can you wake up and have coffee with a giraffe? We will walk you through a little bit of the resorts and give you some outfit ideas to help make your stay here even more magical. If you decide you’d like us to plan an outfit for your Disney vacation, be sure to check out our custom services!Â
Resort Information
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is broken up between two buildings: Jambo House, which is the main building, and Kidani Village, which is the DVC section of the property. You do NOT have to be a DVC member to stay at Kidani Village, but it certainly has its perks, such as a kitchenette and bigger rooms. You can also find a community hall, arcade, incredible pool area with a splash pad, and our favorite perk, covered parking.
This is a perfect place to either enjoy a resort-only stay, or relax on those rest days between theme parks! If you’re wanting to take advantage of all Kidani has to offer, but want to save a little money, check out David’s Vacation Rentals! You can save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on deluxe resorts like this. Browse confirmed reservations to see what’s available for your Disney vacation.Â
We’ve stayed at both Kidani and Jambo House, and honestly you can’t go wrong with either hotel. The only thing we’d recommend is getting a Savannah view at either spot. Even though it’s a little more expensive, there is truly nothing like waking up to a peaceful view of giraffes, bongos, impalas, and other safari animals. My kiddos still talk about staying here, and we will never forget it!
What to Wear
Whether you are staying here during your vacation, or just stopping by for dinner at one of their phenomenal restaurants, we’ve planned some outfits that are themed to the Animal Kingdom Resort. We like to think of these outfits as mini wardrobe capsules, so if you’re trying to pack light, you can reuse the accessories. Of course, we have styled some other options as well in case you want to embellish your looks. While we always say it’s not necessary to theme your outfit to your location, it sure makes it more fun! Let’s start with arrival day.Â
Arrival Day
When we plan outfits for our arrival or departure days, we always try to keep it casual and comfortable, but chic. We want you to be able to step off the airplane (or car!) and feel like you’re ready for your destination.Â
For this look, we went with this adorable tee from Hayden and Grant. We absolutely loved the addition of the mouse ears on the cheetah. As far as hair accessories go, we like to add multiple options to a look since people have different preferences on what they like! We stuck to some neutrals, as we really wanted the main focus to be on the shirt. You could easily swap the faux leather leggings for basic ones, but we really liked the texture of these. We also added a layer because if you are wearing this on your arrival/ departure day, the airplane tends to be cold, so we wanted to make sure you were covered! The backpack is perfect for your travel day, as it is large enough to hold all snacks, books, or laptops for your airplane needs. It’s actually a diaper bag from Freshly Picked, but we like using these as travel bags, even without the kids! If you’re wanting a more animal themed print, we’ll link that one below too!Â

Pool Day
If you are staying at either Kidani Village or Jambo House, PLEASE take advantage of a pool day! The pools are absolutely incredible and will keep you entertained all day. The pool side bar is not to be missed as it serves delicious food and drinks! My family could have stayed here all day had it not rained on our rest day. This look is certainly not just for moms, but we wanted to ensure that mom felt fabulous poolside while making sure everyone has enough sunscreen, water, and snacks!Â
Of course we wanted to stick with the greens and animal print for this day. Cover-ups are such a fun way to stay on theme, but also an extremely functional piece to your vacation wardrobe. And, my favorite pool accessory is a Mickey beach hat! We’ve linked the one that Ashlie owns below!Â

Dinner/Resort Day
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is also known for their phenomenal food choices. From Boma to Jiko, you can experience spectacular African-inspired meals. People will often make reservations at these dining spots even if they aren’t staying at the resort. Don’t forget to also check out Sanaa, as they are known for their one-of-a-kind bread service.Â
We may have strayed a little bit from the capsule, but we really wanted to add some different elements to this look by adding some colors of the resort. This simple black dress can be accessorized however you see fit, but we wanted to make sure we stayed on theme, just in a more subtle way. There is a sleeveless maxi dress version that is also perfect and will be linked below. We wanted to make sure that some Disney touches were added to the look because after all, that’s where you are!

T-Shirt Options
We love when small shops carry resort-specific shirts. DVC members love showing their home resort pride, so here are a few t-shirts you can wear at Animal Kingdom Lodge!Â
SouvenearWDWÂ is an incredible shop. Katie hand draws all of her designs, and we think her creations are so unique. She has a lot of resort-specific designs, so be sure to check her out! We also love the bread service shirt from One Spark Co. You can find these shops on Etsy!
Even if you don’t stay at this resort, you should still visit the property! If you’re not able to squeeze in Animal Kingdom Theme Park on your trip, it’s a great way to see some animals and enjoy some delicious meals. They also offer private nighttime safaris here, but they fill up quickly, so make sure you’re checking in with your travel agent.Â
And remember, theme park fashion doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to make you smile!
