Deciding where to stay at Walt Disney World is a big decision. And while you may not spend a lot of time in your room, there are still plenty of reasons to do a little research about each resort. Whether it’s your first trip or tenth, I will always make the case to add in rest days. The parks are amazing, and that’s probably why you’re heading there for your vacation, but Disney Resorts are destinations of their own and can make your vacation that much more magical.

I think every single resort on Disney property is amazing, and yes, that includes All-Stars! But, there are definite perks of staying at a deluxe resort, like the Polynesian. I am not a big Magic Kingdom resort gal, but the Polynesian Village Resort is one of my favorite places to stay if it’s in the budget. You can check out our room tour below to get an idea of what your room might look like here.
If you want a breakdown of deluxe, moderate, and value resorts, you can head here! Not only is the location ideal for your days at Magic Kingdom, but you also have nightly viewings of the Magic Kingdom fireworks where they even pipe in the music. This can be a pricey commitment, so if you’d like to explore this resort at a lower price point, we’d recommend checking out David’s DVC Rentals. This is a great way to sample deluxe resorts on a tighter budget.
There are so many other perks of staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort that we thought it would be fun to give you some outfit ideas that go along with the resort’s theme and activities in the form of a mini wardrobe capsule, plus a travel day look. After all, we are outfit planners for magical vacations, so if at any point you’d like some outfits a little more customized for your vacation, you can check out our outfit planning services!
These outfits were planned with the Seven Seas theming that’s woven throughout the Polynesian Resort, as well as Moana. Disney debuted the Island Towers back in November, which brought elements of the film to this resort, and we are excited to add her to these looks!
Travel Day
Even though your travel day can be long and exhausting, we still like to add theming to our day, as it can create that extra excitement to your trip that you’ve spent so long planning! However, comfort still needs to be key, so we’ve styled this look with an embroidered sweatshirt from Jolly Holiday Emb.

You might be thinking, “A sweatshirt for Florida?” When it comes to travel days, I tend to be cold on planes and in the airport, but you can easily swap this out for another Polynesian t-shirt. The ears from Engleheart Designs wouldn’t be practical on the plane, but if you grab an ear holder to clip to your mini backpack, you can put them on as soon as you exit MCO or even when you land.
Resort Rest Day
If you’re looking for a cute look for your resort day, we planned a look that incorporates the resort's colors and themes. We wanted this look to feel casual and effortless. If you aren’t comfortable with a cropped top, we’ll link a similar option below. It’s also a good idea to bring a light layer like a jean jacket for extra comfort.

I cannot stress this enough, rest days are important. It doesn’t matter how old or young your kids are, it doesn’t matter what time of year, and it doesn’t matter how much you are used to walking. There is no tired like a Disney tired.
The Polynesian Village Resort offers SO many activities and restaurants for you to enjoy during your stay. You can find a list of activities for the day down in the main lobby. Activities range from tie-dye, making your own Kukui Nut Leis, painting, and lawn games and dance parties.
One of my favorite parts about this resort is the dining and drink options. Even if I am not staying here, I will try and hop on over to grab a coffee or snack at Kona Island or even breakfast at Kona Cafe. The Polynesian is also the only resort on property where you can grab a Dole Whip over at Pineapple Lanai. There is something really special about eating Dole Whip while enjoying the views of Magic Kingdom without ever having to step foot into a park.

But, one of the most sought-after destinations within the Polynesian is Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. I will admit that we’ve never been successful grabbing a spot at this particular location. Spots fill up quickly, and you might be waiting hours for a call-back time. But, if you’re already staying here, just go and enjoy the resort, relax, and then enjoy your time in this highly-interactive bar experience. I was lucky enough to get into the location at Disneyland, and trust me, it’s worth the hype.

If you're not lucky enough to grab a spot inside Trader Sam’s Grotto, do not stress. There are two other fantastic bars with amazing views. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the Tambu Lounge, as well as Trader Sam’s Terrace, which features many of the same drinks found in the Grotto.

Dinner at ‘Ohana
This has become somewhat of a hot take, but I LOVE ‘Ohana. Disney has stepped up their game when it comes to fine dining, so this restaurant has kind of fallen off of the priority list for a lot of people, but it still holds a strong spot in my heart.

This dress was originally from Bloomingdale’s, but we’ve linked similar options below. I did end up adding some different earrings here because I wanted to highlight these Marshallese hoops that were made by real Pacific Island women. You can check out their shop here.
‘Ohana offers two different dining options. The first is a character breakfast featuring Lilo, Stitch, and Friends. We have another blog about this fun dining experience, as well as more outfit ideas.

But in the evening, it becomes an all-you-care-to-enjoy Hawaiian flavored dinner. This does NOT include characters, and I actually think it’s a perfect spot for a romantic evening. If you schedule your meal later in the evening, you might even get to watch the fireworks over at Magic Kingdom while you enjoy your delicious food.
Pool Day
I will be the first to admit that I hate pools. The days of swimming for fun are long gone for me, and I don’t enjoy time relaxing by a pool. However, my kiddos do not feel the same, so anytime we visit Disney, pool days are a priority.

With that being said, the Lava Pool at the Polynesian Resort is by far my favorite pool on property, and I almost don’t hate sitting here while my kids swim. 😆
I know I sound like a broken record, but you simply cannot beat the views from this pool. I can’t think of any other resort where you can sit poolside and look out over Magic Kingdom. My kids adored the Kiki Tiki Splash Pad and thought the steaming volcano with the water was pure magic.
If you don’t want to be surrounded by noise and are looking for a more peaceful poolside experience, you can check out Oasis Pool, which is also connected to a nice patio bar. And of course, the newest additions over at the Island Towers are the Cove Pool and Moana’s Voyage Splash Pad. You can enjoy ALL of these pools, no matter where you are staying at the Polynesian Resort!

Unfortunately, this swimsuit is sold out, but we will link similar options below, as we really love the tropical blues! The highlights of this pool day look are the sun hat that’s from a Hawaiian based shop called Taste of the Tropics and the bag ribbon from Ukuhappy.
Even if you don’t get a chance to stay at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, try and stop by on your next Disney vacation and check it out. If you have any questions, please let us know. I’d be happy to answer anything that I can about this resort!
Until then, remember, theme park fashion doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to make you smile!
