What to Wear to Disney When It's Cold

Walt Disney World is known for its warm and humid weather. Typically, people flock to Florida from November through April to escape the winter's wrath that we typically see here in America. However, lately, it’s been rather chilly in Florida—and not just in North Florida. I remember four years ago, when we started our outfit planning service, our very first clients were visiting the parks in January. We had planned a few outfits with leggings and jackets just to be safe, but it ended up being so hot that they weren’t needed.

It’s a little more typical for Disneyland to experience cooler temps during the winter months, but not so much Walt Disney World. We’ve seen a slight shift during the past couple of years where Lauren and I have had to pack coats and hats at the last minute because highs were only in the 50’s during the day. When Lauren and her family visited last February, Lauren had 4 layers on, and she was still cold!

So, we thought we’d create some outfits to help combat those days where you still want to theme your look, but also stay warm. We’ve planned one outfit per park, so hopefully this will give you some ideas if you’re headed there anytime soon. If you are looking for more of a customized look, you can check out our outfit planning services where we can create a unique look for you or your entire family.

And as always, remember to shop your closet first! I am sure that you have some cardigans or jackets you can pull from if you need to pack a few extra layers.

Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a variety of themed areas, but its most recent addition is Galaxy’s Edge. This land offers a walk on Batuu where you can find plenty of familiar faces from the Star Wars canon such as the Mandalorian, Rey, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, and Stormtroopers. We wanted to create a look that perhaps speaks to your dark side.

The Stormtroopers are highly interactive at Galaxy’s Edge, so we thought this look would hopefully spark some fun banter. If you’re more of a Resistance gal, you could easily swap out the accessories and add some Princess Leia touches! We added some star tights, but if it’s really cold and you wanted to still wear the turtleneck dress, just swap them out for some fleece lined ones. Also, please note that I know the hair clip is a disco ball and not the Death Star. It still somehow just seemed fitting.

Magic Kingdom

I cannot deny that my favorite theme park outfit combo is a skort with a sweatshirt. It brings me so much joy when the temperature is just perfect enough to make this work. There’s something about Magic Kingdom that always makes me want to be in a skirt or a dress. The color combo of this outfit works perfectly for taking some pictures in front of the castle. And honestly, this outfit would also be a good option for either Epcot or Hollywood Studios, as you can meet both Minnie and Daisy in those parks.

If it’s REALLY cold, we’ve paired this adorable sweatshirt with a fleece lined turtleneck, and of course, our go-to fleece lined leggings. I loved this bag so much that I ordered one for myself, so I will let you know how the quality holds up. It’s not set to arrive until February, so I will keep you posted. I was NOT impressed with my bag for MVMCP, so hopefully this quality will be better.

Epcot

As stated in our previous blog post, Epcot is truly an underrated park for meeting princesses. You can find Jasmine, Belle, Aurora, Snow White, Elsa, and Anna all within the World Showcase. And, did you know that when it gets really cold, they can be seen wearing their winter capes and coats? We wanted to match that energy and create a look that was cozy, cute, and comfortable.

Lauren and I actually both own this denim jacket from Cakeworthy and love it. We get so many compliments when we wear it to Disney and back home in the Midwest. As of right now, the princess crossbody from Petunia Pickle Bottom is on sale! The quality of Petunia Pickle Bottom is amazing, and while I don’t own the crossbody, I do own a mini backpack that’s held up very well.

Animal Kingdom

If you plan to explore a day at Animal Kingdom (which you really should), we’ve got you covered. No, a Lion King theme is not groundbreaking, but we believe that it’s a true classic that will never go out of style. You might be thinking that a tank top is an odd choice for a winter outfit, but fear not, the tank is actually lined with fleece.

I really love the rust color of this cardigan, and it’s really going to pop well in photos against the greens and browns found in Animal Kingdom. However, if you’re more comfortable with beiges and greens, the linked option comes in a variety of colors. Also, I really need someone else to buy this Simba crossbody because I DO NOT NEED IT, but it’s so dang cute!

As always, we hope you have found this helpful. Even though it will take up precious space in your luggage, packing a layer or two is always a good idea. Disney park layers can be very expensive, so save yourself some money and grab it beforehand.

And remember, theme park fashion doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to make you smile.
